Daffy Duck

Daffy Duck

Daffy Duck made its first appearance in 1937 during Porky's Duck Hunt, directed by Tex Avery and animated by Bob Clampett. The design of Daffy changed and the only parts that remained were the white neck ring, the black feathers and the voice of Mel Blanc. He created the accent after the producer Leon Schlesinger's tendency to lisp.

As popular as Daffy was, he never toped the charts. Bugs Bunny, released one year later to the audience, had a much greater popularity. The famous duck came to play a variety of characters, as in Duck Dodgers in the 24½th Century (1953) and Rocket Squad (1956), were he teamed with Porky. He also played next to Bugs, in Beanstalk Bunny and Ali Baba Bunny.

During the 1980s, he stared in various TV specials, next to other Looney Tunes characters and in 1996 he was an actor in the movie Space Jam, next to his team mates, and also in Looney Tunes: Back in Action in 2003. Recently, Daffy was given larger roles. In Bah, Humduck! A Looney Tunes Christmas, a straight-to-video release from 2006, he took the lead while Bugs Bunny played a minor role.
