Tom and Jerry

The Tom and Jerry series were written and directed by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera and were produced by the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer cartoon studio in Hollywood from 1940 until 1957. The creators first started with a series featuring Puss Gets the Boot, a cat that tried to catch an unnamed mouse. Fred Quimby later commissioned the two to create a series featured a cat and mouse. The production for the Tom and Jerry series started airing on television in 1941. Scheduled on Saturday morning, the show later moved to Sundays two years later and remained there until September 17, 1972.

Tom is the cat who lives for eating, napping and chasing his housemate mouse. He is above other cats and he sticks to his schemes and strategies about catching his nemesis. Jerry. The mouse called Jerry is the most charming character in the animation world. He is quiet as a mouse but always seems to find ways to disturb Tom from napping or eating. Naturally, he eludes him everytime. Tom is very quick tempered, while Jerry – opportunistic, however Tom is no match for Jerry's wits.

In 1945, Jerry makes an appearance in the musical feature film Anchors Aweigh, next to Gene Kelly. Tom and Jerry: The Movie was released in 1992 overseas and in 1993 in the U.S. The movie failed at the box office because it was predictable and because the writers gave Tom and Jerry lines. Tom and Jerry: The Magic Ring was released in 2001 directly on video and in 2005, to celebrate the two's sixty-fifth anniversary, Tom and Jerry Blast Off to Mars and Tom and Jerry: The Fast and The Furry were released on DVD.
